We offer a variety of technical rescue programs, designed specifically for use in the most remote and
austere environments. These programs emphasize the use of available resources, improvised solutions,
and rational safety measures to accomplish the mission.

Do not confuse these programs with the "firefighter" programs taught to meet United States civilian
statutes... These classes use real problems in real settings to teach real solutions via learning the concepts
behind the procedures, not just cookbook solutions that assume you have every piece of equipment ever
made at your fingertips...

Wilderness & Expeditionary Rescue Programs:

Wilderness, Expedition & Cave Rescue Level I, II, III
- 5 (Introduction To Rescue) or 7 days (Full Program) 25/40 of CME/CEU's each
- This series of courses is designed to complement the wilderness medicine courses by providing
additional training in the technical aspects of patient access, stabilization, immobilization, and evacuation. -
Wilderness, remote, austere, and disaster medical situations often require extensive rescue and evacuation
components to save lives. Medical providers require a basic knowledge of the technical aspects of the
rescue component, as well as advanced skills and experiences to be able to successfully integrate medical
care with the rescue process.

-
The Level 1 course introduces technical rescue concepts and equipment, safety of all procedures and
operations, and patient immobilization, vertical hauling systems, and movement through confined spaces,
water hazards, and difficult terrain. This course is primarily conducted through extensive field learning
exercises.
- Upon successful completion of the course the participant will be well versed in the equipment, knots,
rigging, anchors and anchor systems, hauling and lowering systems, mechanical advantage, rappelling,
SRT, litter management, patient packaging, medical care and incident management as well as many other
skills and techniques necessary for medical care and rescue in a remote or challenging environment.
Because of the remote nature of this course there is a strong emphasis on improvisational skills and making
do.
- The training will include several scenarios in the rivers, jungles and caves of Belize. Scenarios will include
rescue and medical care in the jungle; cave passages, river caves, underground waterfalls and deep
underground pits. The last scenario is a full day and evening exercise, often requiring 16-20 hours to
complete. The rescue and medical skills learned in this course are applicable to any wilderness setting.
- This course is often offered in conjunction with (either before or after) the wilderness and tropical medicine
class to allow participants to gain the full introductory experience to wilderness medicine and rescue.
- Many participants have had no prior rescue training. Most are adventurous souls with a passion for the
unusual or the unknown. The majority of all participants from the U.S have been adventurers who wish to
expand their horizons and be challenged in a truly unique and rare environment
.- Students have attended this course from a variety of backgrounds including, firefighters, paramedics, EMT
river guides, rangers, police and SWAT officers, mountain and cave rescuers, medical students, residents
and physicians, as well as people who are looking for an opportunity to push the envelope.
