Global Medical Rescue Services, Ltd (GMRS) is proud to announce a new program now being offered to
all students, graduate students, faculty, and other interested parties in any science discipline that
requires field work: the Field Scientist Survival Skills Course (FSSS).
Anthropology, Archeology, Biology, Botany, Ecology, Geology & Geo-sciences, Marine Biology,
Oceanography, and many more disciplines conduct field work in remote & difficult locations... learn the
field skills you need to survive & thrive!
An intense five-day, 50+ hour program, the FSSS course provides practical, hands on training in
preparing for, surviving, and thriving while performing any sort of field research work, in any environment.
By participating in this program, you will learn:
- Remote travel skills & safety strategies when operating in the 3rd & 4th world setting, planning for
the unexpected event, accessing help when needed
- Hazard recognition – people, environmental, geographic – mitigation, management, withdrawal
strategies
- Food, water, weather, sanitation, and other environmental safety considerations and rational, low
tech - low weight solutions
- Infectious disease, medical, and trauma emergencies, prevention, emergency care, low
weight/volume kits, basic medication use, extensive practice
- Core field survival skills and self rescue skills with extensive practice
- Tips, tricks, and secrets for enjoying life in the field
Using a fast paced combination of classroom teaching; hands on guided skill practice; field training
exercises, scenarios, and drills; and one or more overnight practical exercises, you will graduate from
this program with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to undertake remote or potentially
